The Lhasa Apso is one of three breeds that originated centuries ago in the Himalayas of Tibet. This smart and confident breed was considered sacred and used as sentinels to guard temples and monasteries. The Lhasa was so well protected that it wasn't until the 1930s that they first made an appearance in the States where the merry long-haired dog gained popularity.
